Victims of february-raids gassed in Hartheim Castle.

On 22 and 23 Febuary 1941, raids took place in Amsterdam,  in which 390 Jewish men were arrested and deported. Only two of them survived. A recent investigation has shown that more than 100 men were gassed in Hartheim Castle, while Mauthausen was established as the official place of death.

In February 2021, the City Archive of Amsterdam opened the exhibition “The raids of 22 and 23 February 1941 in Amsterdam. The fate of 389 Jewish men”. At the same time the book of the same name by Wally de Lang was published, which investigated the life and fate of all individual victims.

Initially the 390 men were all deported to Buchenwald via Camp Schoorl and a large number of them subsequently to Mauthausen.

De Lang's investigation showed that at least 108 but probably 150 men, of whom the official place of death is Mauthausen, had in fact been gassed in Hartheim Castle.

In the camp records of Mauthausen, lists were kept of unnatural causes of death. The “Veränderungsbuch”, the book of mutations from Mauthausen, contains the names of the men who were murdered during secret actions in the gas chamber of Hartheim Castle. With the help of this source, the actual dates of death were found of a large number of victims.

On this website, (only in Dutch language available), you will find biographies and the actual dates of death of all victims of the February-raids:
