Herman van Zuiden was a member of the soccer club Wilhelmina Vooruit (later united with HEDW) in Amsterdam. He is mentioned on the monument in remembrance of the war victims of the club on the ground of WV-HEDW in Amsterdam-Watergraafsmeer.

In 'Onze Revue', het clubblad van Wilhelmina Vooruit, van 27 augustus 1941 werd vermeld dat de ouders van 'onze midvoor' Herman van Zuiden een brief van hem hadden ontvangen. Hij liet, mede namens Sal Zwaaf, iedereen in de club groeten en hoopte dat hij gauw in staat zou zijn weer mee te spelen. De brief was afkomstig uit het concentratiekamp Mauthausen. Victims of february-raids gassed in Hartheim Castle.

On 22 and 23 Febuary 1941, raids took place in Amsterdam,  in which 390 Jewish men were arrested and deported. Only two of them survived. A recent investigation has shown that more than 100 men were gassed in Hartheim Castle, while Mauthausen was established as the official place of death.
