Zijn vriend, de latere schrijver Maurice Ferares, was getuige van zijn oppakken: "Ik heb midden in die razzia gestaan, in de Weesperstraat. Ik was met m'n vriendje Emile Kets de Vries in de stad, op het Jonas Daniël Meijerplein werd hij gepakt."

Elie Salomon Kets de Vries and his family

Elie Salomon Kets de Vries married Jansje Hamburger in 1918 in Amsterdam. She died in 1931. He had with her the two sons mentioned here. In 1936 he married Klara Marx and had another son with her. From 1938 they lived seperately.

Victims of february-raids gassed in Hartheim Castle.

On 22 and 23 Febuary 1941, raids took place in Amsterdam,  in which 390 Jewish men were arrested and deported. Only two of them survived. A recent investigation has shown that more than 100 men were gassed in Hartheim Castle, while Mauthausen was established as the official place of death.
