Jacob Benedictus (Jaap) Sajet zijn moeder, Aleida Sajet-Hamburger  en zijn zuster Hetty (Heintje) wisten door onderduik de oorlog te overleven. Jaap's vader, Abraham Sajet, een accountant, was al voor de oorlog overleden in 1927.

Zijn grootmoeder Saartje Sajet-Visser, weduwe van de diamanthandelaar Jacob Sajet, was op 13 maart 1943 omgebracht in Sobibor.
