Helmuth was a German refugee. Together with his brother he came to the Netherlands in December 1938. He lived at the quarantine station Beneden Heijplaat in Rotterdam, at the Vondelhof in Amsterdam, at the Dommelhuis in Eindhoven, in Huis ten Vijver in Scheveningen. When this house was abolished he moved in with his father in The Hague.

Helmut Danziger woonde vanaf 11 februari 1942 in kamp Westerbork. Hij zat in het eerste transport naar Auschwitz van 15 juli 1942. Hij behoorde tot de groep van 100 'Alte Lagerinsassen' van Westerbork die voor dit eerste transport werden geselecteerd.
