Before the war, Charles Polak was a secretary for the Dutch Zionist League. He suffered from leukemia for which he received treatment in Amsterdam. During his military service he had the rank of (reserve-)captain. Charles Polak died in Bergen-Belsen as a consequence o f a pneumonia.
