Barend Simons

The name of Barend Simons appears on a handwritten list of the individuals who held offices within the Dutch-Jewish Community in Haarlem during the early years of the war. Photos remain of all the staff members. Barend Simons was vice-chair of the Religious Institute Gemieloeth Chassadiem.

Barend is een zoon van Levi Simons en Judith de Vries. Hij trouwde 15 augustus 1911 met Betje de Vries, dochter van Levi de Vries en Hester Coltof.

Barend Simons registreerde op 1 mei 1921 zijn winkel in boter, kaas, kruidenierswaren en fijne vleeswaren in de Schagchelstraat 28 te Haarlem. In 1937 deed hij de winkel over aan zijn zoon Levie (Louis) Simons. De winkel is in 1943 door de Duitsers in beslag genomen.
