Volgens de persoonskaart van David Apfelbaum heetten zijn ouders Mozes Apfelbaum (geboren 03-03-1898) en Edge Feuerstein (geboren 03-07-1907).
David kwam in januari 1939 naar Nederland met zijn broer Jacob. Via het Noorderhuis in Ruinen en het Amsterdamse Burgerweeshuis kwam hij uiteindelijk bij het pleeggezin Onderwijzer terecht.
De ouders waren in Hamborn achtergebleven.
