Iwan Jacob Jacobs was the son of Simon Jacobs and Sara Rosenberg. In 1919 he married Betje van der Horst, daughter of Salomon van der Horst and Betje Brest. The couple had four children.

Het gezin werd opgepakt bij de grote razzia in Doetinchem op de avond van 17 november 1942. Er werden toen, zo is aannemelijk, 68 Joden opgepakt. Op 24 november 1942 werd het gezin gedeporteerd richting Auschwitz. Iwan Jacob Jacobs was een van degenen die op 26 november de trein heeft moeten verlaten op het goederenstation van Cosel.
