Jakob Rosenblatt

Jakob Rosenblatt was born as the fifth of seven children in the family of Hirsch Rosenblatt and Fradie Linczyc. The family emigrated to Vienna where Jakob was trained as a goldsmith. Before he came to Amsterdam he worked for a short time in Levice, Slovakia. In Amsterdam he worked for some wellknown jewellers before he started his own business. Mijn vader kwam uit Skalat, nu Oekraïne, mijn moeder uit Tarnow in Polen. Beiden kwamen met hun ouders naar Wenen, rond 1918, toen het Habsburgse rijk instortte. Mijn vader werkte 1936 in Amsterdam als goudsmid en juwelier. Op vakantie in Wenen leerde hij mijn moeder kennen en zij trouwden daar. Ze gingen wonen op Ruyschstraat 32 III. In the early 1930's the Rosenblatt family lived on the top floor of this building. When their first child was born, they moved to the 3rd floor.
