Wilhelm Katz and Ida Hess committed suicide because they thought both of their children had died in concentration camps. They are buried in Amsterdam.

Wilhelm Katz was in Duitsland directeur van de grootste ziektekostenverzekeraar van het land, tot de nazi's hem in 1934 ontsloegen. Het gezin Katz vertrok naar Nederland, waar Wilhelm in Amsterdam het bedrijf Verzekering Voor Ziekte startte, de eerste particuliere ziektekostenverzekeraar van Nederland. Het gezin woonde in de Beethovenstraat in Amsterdam-Zuid.
