Barend Gobits behoort tot de zogenaamde Koselgroep. De deportatietrein naar Auschwitz stopte (soms) kort op het station van Kosel, ca 80 km van Auschwitz. Alle jongens en mannen tussen 15 en 50 jaar werden er dan uit gehaald en gescheiden van de familieleden.
