Paul was refugee child from Austria. He arrived in the Netherlands on December 11th, 1938 with the first Kindertransport from Vienna. After two weeks in quarantine in a school in the Copernicusstraat in The Hague he lived in Ockenburgh, and in Huis ten Vijver. When he had to leave here he moved in with a family.
Paul was very good in math.
His mother, Rudolfine Freistadt, was born in 1897 in Vienn…

Who was P Zaitschek?

On May 14 1940, after the Netherlands surrendered to the Germans, a life boat named Zeemanshoop with 46 mostly Jewish refugees left Scheveningen. One of the passengers was a certain P Zaitschek. No one seems to have been able to find out who he was or what happened to him after their safe arrival in England.

De pleegouders van Paul Zaitschek schreven in een briefje aan de rector dat hun pleegzoon niet aan het examen kon deelnemen aangezien hij met de beide dochters van het gezin in de nacht van 18-19 augustus 1942 naar Polen was gedeporteerd.
