Esther Knoop

Esther Knoop, born 18 November 1882 in Amsterdam, was the 2nd of the eight children of Salomon Knoop and Ribca Lopes Cardozo. She lived with her parents in Amsterdam till 29 March 1917 when she left Amsterdam voor Hengelo in the province of Overijssel. She lived there at the address Vondelstraat 3 and she was a ladies fashion hat maker by trade. She was unmarried.

She was betrayed and arrested at a hiding place in Laren (province of Noord Holland), with her sister plus a number of other people in hiding. They were brought to Amsterdam, Hollandsche Schouwbug. From there they were transported to Westerbork. They both died in Auschwitz on 22 October 1943.

The Hengelo police commissioner requested that Esther Knoop be located, detained and brought to trial. She lived in Hengelo and had changed her place of residence without obtaining the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
