Robert Ludwig was a German refugee child. He came to the Netherlands on March 30th, 1939 with a Kindertransport. First he stayed at the quarantine in Rotterdam, from where he was moved to the facility in the "Achterklooster" in Rotterdam. From there he went to a sanatorium in Hilversum, even though on paper he was transferred to Westerbork.

While Robert was staying in the Dommelhuis he was in training to become an electronics engineer. But in July 1939 he became sick.
