Louis Leijdesdorf was the son of Abraham Leijdesdorff and Rebecca Haasema. Louis was in 1902 chief of an export butcher's shop. His father and father-in-law were butchers.

Louis Leijdesdorff married in 1902 to Rika Louise van Os, daughter of Salomon van Os and Rosetta Meijers. Louis and Rika had two children: Selma and a child who survived the war.
