Salomon Koopman was a son of Emanuel Koopman and Schoontje Levij. He married Mietje Fransman in Amsterdam on 4 June 1913, a daughter of Mozes Fransman and Roosje Lakmaker.
Salomon was born in a family with nine children, of whom two children have died in childhood. His other siblings, . Isaac, Levie, Hijman, Joseph, Samson and Betje, have been killed all during the Holocaust.
