Simon Furth werd op 19 december 1912 in Amsterdam geboren. Hij was leerling diamantbewerker. Hij speelde viool en had les van Ferdinand Helmann, eerste concertmeester van het Concertgebouworkest. Van het Henri Polakfonds had hij als musicus gestudeerd. In 1935 trouwde hij met de joodse kantoorbediende Elisabeth Papier en in hetzelfde jaar werd hij violist van het Concertgebouworkest.
