Machiel Swaab was twee keer getrouwd. Uit zijn eerste huwelijk met Naatje Bachra, die in 1929 overleed, had hij twee kinderen: Maria (1923) en Nehemia (1926). In 1932 hertrouwde hij met Gracia Pach, met wie hij in 1933 nog zoon Robert Salomon kreeg.
