On 26 February 1814 King William I decreed that the Nederlandsch Israëlitisch Seminarium (NIS) was to be established in Amsterdam to train rabbis, teachers and other officers serving the Jewish community.
Mozes Nieweg, son of Aron, attended the NIS.

Mozes (Maupie) Nieweg was een zoon van Aron Henry Nieweg en Flora Cohen de Heer. Zijn zuster was Rebekka (Beppie) Nieweg.
Zijn vader was slager.
Het gezin woonde van 15 september 1932 tot 28 januari 1933 op Nieuwstraat 8 in Appingedam en vertrok op 28/01/1933 naar Willemstraat 17 te Delfzijl.
Hun laatste adres was Waterstraat 41 in Delfzijl.
