David Josef Akker, also known as Do, was the son of Jacob Akker and Dina Lievendag. Shortly before the war he married Frida Meijer, the daughter of a well-to-do butcher from Ostercappeln in northwestern Germany. They married to be able to get Frida out of Germany. They had a daughter Diena Hilda, who was born prematurely and kept alive with great effort in an incubator at the hospital.
