About Max Knoop

Max Knoop had been set to work in Drenthe in 1941. He was sent to Westerbork and from there to various other camps. When the Russian armies were advancing towards the camp in which Max Knoop was interned in 1945, those in charge of the camp decided to evacuate it. The prisoners who were still able to walk(including Max Knoop) were forced to go on a death march.

Max Knoop komt via Kosel achtereenvolgens in de werkkampen Tränke, Wiesau en Kittlitztreben terecht. Tijdens zijn gevangenschap raakt hij bevriend met zijn kampgenoten Hans Andriesse en Louis van Emrik. Hans overleeft als enige van de drie de oorlog en schrijft een boek over zijn belevenissen. Max en Louis komen daarin regelmatig ter sprake.
