Biography

Place of death unknown, date unknown

Addition of the biography of 3 December 2022 of Vrouwtje and Dina van West.

The Jewish Monument does not mention a place of death and/or a date of death, if there are no legal documents, such as a death certificate or a mention of death in the Dutch Government Gazette, which in many cases is a legal date of death and not the actual date of death .

Nevertheless, it can happen that it is known with a high probability where and when someone actually died.

Vrouwtje van West and her daughter Dina were deported from Mechelen to Auschwitz on 27 August 1942 with Convoy 6, which arrived in Auschwitz no later than 3 days later. Research from after the war, as mentioned in the "Memorial of the Deportation of the Jews from Belgium", has shown that 280 men of this convoy had to leave the train at a stopover in Cosel, out of a total of 1000 deportees. The remaining 720 persons, all women, are transported further to Auschwitz but are not allowed to enter the camp; they are all immediately murdered in the gas chambers upon arrival.

After the war, the Court of First Instance of Antwerp has established by verdict of 9 November 1956 no.1782 that Vrouwtje van West and Dina van West between 29 August and 8 September 1942 have died in Auschwitz.

It is therefore very likely that it may be assumed that Vrouwtje van West and her daughter Dina van West died in the gas chambers on 30 August 1942 in Auschwitz.

Vrouwtje reached the age of 40, and her daughter Dina was then 20 years old.
