Biography

About Herman Groen.

Herman Groen was a son of Jacob Raphaël Groen and Branca van Lochem. He was  born 15 December 1928 in Borgerhout, province of Antwerp and lived with his parents and sibs Aäron and Jetje again in Amsterdam per June 1930; in the beginning living in with his uncle Salomon van Lochem in the 3rd Oosterparkstraat 73 3rd storey but four weeks later his family moved to Blasiusstraat 129 1st floor. Since June 1937 Herman lived with his family at Kraaipanstraat 67 in the Transvaal district of Amsterdam-East. 

It appeared from the registration card of Herman Groen from the Jewish Council archive that Herman Groen has been hospitalized in the Central Israelitic Psychiatric Hosptial in Apeldoorn, "The Apeldoornsche Bosch" on 19 October 1942. Together with all other patients and staff he was carried off by the Germans on 23 January 1943 and deported to Auschwitz, where he on arrival on 25 January 1943 - with all the others - has been killed in the gas chambers immediately.
