Biography

About Joseph Smeer, his wife Naatje Beek and their dauhter Eva.

Joseph Smeer, tailor, who was born 7 April 1899 in Amsterdam as son of Wolf Smeer and Etje Slager married 4 September 1929 in Amsterdam Naatje Beek, born 11 September 1903 as twinsister of Jesaya Beek and daughter of Lion Beek en Eva Spier.  The Smeer couple lived at Thérèse Schwartzestraat 17 2nd floor in Amsterdam and had a daughter on 24 November 1930, named Eva.

The Joseph Smeer family was taken 11 Augutst 1942 to Westerbork and deported to Auschwitz on 14 August. On arrival there on 16 August 1942, Naatje Smeer-Beek and her daughter Eva were murdered inmmediately there but Joseph was deployed as forced labourer. His exact date of death is not known, reason why the Dutch Ministery of Justice after the war has established his place and date of death as on 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.
