Gabriel Monnickendam, born 1893 in Amsterdam was a son of Izaak Monnickendam from Den Helder and Ribca Lissa from Amsterdam. He was unmarried and his worked as deliverer of bread in Amsterdam. Gabriel had a sister Henriette, who was married to Abraham Acathan, who lived in Amsterdam too.
His parents left Amsterdam for Veenwouden, municipality of Dantumadeel in the province of Friesland, where they were registered in June 1891. Six months later, 5 Januari 1892 their son Willem was born there. Of him nothing is further known.
In 1935 Gabriel Monnickendam lived at Nieuwe Achtergracht 57 ground floor in Amsterdam. His vendor permit, which he received from the municipality of Amsterdam, enabled him to sell chocolates and confectionery at the street market of Uilenburg.
His last known address was Binnenhofstraat 68 upstairs in Amsterdam, from where he was deported 7 August 1942 to Westerbork and that same day put on transport to Auschwitz with another 986 deportees. It is rather certain that on arrival there 10 August 1942, Gabriel was selected for forced labor in Auschwitz or some satellite camp. Whether he lost his life possibly due to diseases, hardship or selection is not known. His date of death however has been established officially as 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.
