Jacob Visser was a son of the Deventer butcher Emanuel Visser and Betje Frankfort, a family with three children. Jacob had two other sisters: Sientje and Leentje. He married on 9 January 1889 in Tiel to Esther Hirsch, daughter of Asser Hirsch and Betje Marchand. The couple had one son Asser.
