About Eva Nathans

Eva Nathans was a daughter of Simon Nathans and Betje de Jong. She married the draper and clothing retailer Izaak van Dam in Haren (Groningen) on 3 September 1919, a son of Simon van Dam and Betje de Jong. The couple had five children, of whom Martha Betje and Machiel Nico have died already before the war. Eva's other children, namely Martijn Bertus, Siemon Machiel and Bernard Max have been killed in the Shoah.

Based on the registration card of the Jewisch Council of Eva and her family, it appeared that they were in Camp Westerbork on 27 August 1942. The next day, 28 August they have been all deported to Auschwitz. Her husband and son Siemon Machiel were killed on 31 December 1942. Her eldest son Martijn Bertus lost his life on 7 February 1945 at Gross Rosen but Eva self and her youngest son Bernard Max were killed immediately upon arrival in Auschwitz on 31 August 1942.

Eva's parents had eight children in total. They were Aaltje, Nathan, Salomon David, Sophia, Klara, David Simon, Anna and Eva self. Only her brother Nathan passed away already rather young: he died in 1913, 27 years old. All other siblings have been killed in the Shoah.
