About Eduard Henri Benjamin van Lier

Eduard Henri Benjamin van Lier studied medicine in Utrecht, where he sat for his medical finals on 26 June 1908. He obtained his doctoral degree on 8 July 1909 in Utrecht on a thesis 'On the interfibrillation material in the corium with mammals'. From 1909 until 1921, he was acting director of the Municipal Hospital in Utrecht. In the years 1911-1921, he had a general practice. After that, he specialised in stomach and metabolic disorders. He wrote a few famous books: 'Hygiene for nurses, schools and households'. 'Dietetics especially for ill people' and 'Hygiene of the reproductive organs'.

Eduard Henri Benjamin van Lier lived and practised at 130 Biltstraat in Utrecht. He also practised in the outpatients' clinic at 5 Maliebaan in Utrecht and with the Green Cross in Zuilen.

Eduard Henri Benjamin van Lier took his own life on 14 May 1940.

Eduard Henri Benjamin van Lier ended his own life together with his wife Gerarda Adriana (Rard) Guldensteeden Egeling, his son Cornelis and his daughter-in-law Bernardina Daamen.
