Simon Salomon (‘Lon’) Slagter served as chazzan in the shul services of the Jewish society Tsofouno (‘North’ of Rotterdam). The society was founded in Hilligersberg in the 1930s and had several hundred members. Tsofouno’s activities included organizing shul services and festive celebrations on Jewish holidays. Lon Slagter also gave lessons about Judaism in two classes of children, together with Mr Kropveld. These classes were held on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings.
