De geroofde bibliotheek van Leopold Scheyer

Leopold Scheyer was apotheker te Berlijn. Op 9 maart 1943 pleegde hij zelfmoord, toen hij de oproep voor transport had ontvangen. In Berlijn had hij een omvangrijke bibliotheek, waarvan een boek als nazi-roofgoed in het nieuws kwam (zie bijlage).

The Story of Martha Scheyer-Beuthner

The documentation for this story I collected at the Amsterdam City Archive, the National Archive in the Hague, and several websites. Most information however was shared by Martha's granddaughters, who live in the United States and Canada. They also sent me the pictures of Martha.

Martha Beuthner was born on 8 April 1879 in Königshütte, in what was German Silesia at the time, and is now Chorzow in Poland. Her parents were Markus Beuthner and Ernestine Behnsch. On 19 September 1880 her brother Bruno was born. He was to settle in Hamburg, Germany, as a salesman, and to marry Charlotte Adolph, a non-Jewish lady.
