Biography

The fate of Marianne Peper and her brother Abraham.

Marianne Peper (1907) and he brother Abraham (1910), were children of Levie Peper and Johanna Vos and lived at Korte Houtstraatr 7 2nd floor in Amsterdam, at home with their parents. In the Peper family six children in total were born, of whom two have died in childhood, viz. Abraham and Joseph; both died already after resp. 1 and 4 months old.

Margaretha was the only who got married. On 18 September 1935 she was wed to Louis Mechanicus and had with him three children. They lived at Manegestraat 12 3rd floor in Amsterdam. Margaretha and her three young children were murdered in Auschwitz on 15 October 1942 and her husband Louis Mechanicus lost his life there on 28 February 1943.

Marianne and her brother Abraham presumably have responded to the call for the so-called provision of additional work in Germany under police surveillance, the “Arbeitseinsatz”. They travelled by train to Westerbork on 21 July 1942 and received for the journey a special travel document, a “BNH” (Biljet Naar Hooghalen – Ticket To Hooghalen) and from there they were deported to Auschwitz one week later, on 27 July 1942.

Not known is where Abraham Peper and his sister Marianne have been put to work there nor when exactly they have lost their lives. Therefore after the war, the Dutch Authorities have established, also based on testimonials of survivors and research, that due to the inhumane and harsh conditions there, Abraham and Marianne no longer could be alive after 30 September 1942.

Then the Municipality of Amsterdam was commissioned to draw up certificates of death for them in which was established that Marianne Peper and Abraham Peper have died in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942.
