Biography

About Flora Brandon and her husband Jacob Fruitman.

Flora Brandon was a daughter of Aaron Brandon and his 2nd wife Hendrika de Haas from Wageningen. Flora was born on 8 April 1883 in Amsterdam and married there on 9 August 1906 a son of Juda Fruitman and Jeanne Blog, the diamond worker Jacob Fruitman. Flora and Jacob had three children, namely Jeannette in 1908, Hendrika in 1911 and Henriette Suzanna in 1914.

Flora, her husband and children lived at Vrolikstraat 144 2nd floor in Amsterdam. Also other family members came to live in there, like Flora’s mother Hendrika de Haas, who was widowed from Aaron Brandon since February 1925 and moved in on 21 February 1926 from Lepelstraat to Vrolikstraat 144 2nd stock, where she died on 30 June 1942.

On 3 January 1941 Flora’s brother-in-law Marcus Fruitman arrived from Borgerhout in the Vrolikstraat, but moved already on 6 January 1941 with his wife Susanna Stokvis into a house at Tweede Boerhaavestraat 58 2nd floor.

Daughter Jeannette married on 27 December 1933 Karel Polak and moved then into an own home at Tilanusstraat. Daughter Hendrika married on 4 February Isaäc Munnikendam, who lived in already since 21 May 1940 at Vrolikstraat 144 2nd floor. Both remained living there till their move to Fuchsiastraat 87 groundfloor on 10 May 1943. Both the daughters and their spouses survived the Holocaust.

Also daughter Henriette Suzanna remained living at her parental home at Vrolikstraat. On 17 July 1942 she married Izak Slap, who was born on 23 March 1913 as a son of Aäron Slap and Sara Kesnig. Before his wedding, Izak Slap lived at Blasiusstraat 93 2nd stock, but remained registered there also after his wedding. However, they were deported together from Westerbork to Sobibor on 6 July 1943 and on arrival there on 9 July 1943, immediately muredered in the gas chambers there.

Flora Brandon and her husband Jacob Fruitman have been carried off on 9 April 1943 to Westerbork, where they ended up in barrack 68. On 20 April both were deported to Sobibor and upon arrival there on 23 April 1943, they were murdered immediately in the gas chambers.
