Biography

About Rozette Roos and her husband Salomon Jacobs.

Rozette Roos was the first daughter of Isaac Roos and his second spouse Elisabeth Ossedrijver; she was born in Rotterdam on 29 May 1871 and lived with her family at Kipstraat 93 in Rotterdam. In 1886 she moved with her parents, halfbrother David, brother Adolph and sisters Jeanne, Selma and Josephina to Amsterdam. On 26 August 1890 she married there at the age of 19 the 31-year old Salomon Jacobs, who was born in Borculo on 21 May 1859 as a son of Simon Joseph Jacobs and Rachel Rosendal. The couple Jacobs-Roos had no children.

Salomon Jacobs was a commercial traveller. Since 1884 he lived in Amsterdam at various addresses, like the O.Z. Achterburgwal, the N.Z. Voorburgwal, the Nieuwebrugsteeg and at Weteringsschans 141, where after his weddingday in August 1890, his newly wed wife Rozette moved in too. Thereafter they have moved to Herengracht, Leidseplein and Jan Luijkenstraat. In 1918 they stayed in Driebergen for a short time, and after returning to Amsterdam in 1921 they moved again to the Rijksstraatweg in Driebergen, after which they moved into a house at the Godelindeweg 6 in Hilversum, where Rozette Jacobs-Roos passed away on 7 March 1941.

Already on 2 May 1941 Salomon Jacobs left Hilversum for Amsterdam, where he found living space at the Lomanstraat 51 with the unmarried nurse Judith van Leeuwen, but moved still once more to house nr. 61 in the same street, which became also his last known address in Amsterdam. On 1 May 1943 Salomon Jacobs was carried off to Westerbork, where he immediately has been hospitalized in the sick-barrack 82 and where he has died on 4 May. He was cremated in Westerbork on 6 May 1943 and his urn with his ashes was placed later on the Jewish cemetry in Diemen
