Esther Heijmans was a daughter of Lion Heijmans and Lea de Miranda. She was born in a family with six children, of whom Debora and Judith have passed away already as babies, Alida has survived the war but not David, she herself and Ezechiel David.
On 14 December 1933 she married in Utrecht to Leon van Gelderen.
