Sophia Andriesse was the widow of James Cohen (also known as Cohen of Elburg). James Cohen was an actor, a poet and a composer. The family lived for some time in The Hague and moved then to Blaricum, where James died in 1932. Sophia and her two children went via Rotterdam and Apeldoorn to Amsterdam.
