Simon Overste was a son of Matthijs Overste and Duifje Moses. He married in Amsterdam on 6 July 1887 to Esther van Collem, daughter of David van Collem and Rachel Olivier.
The couple had six children: David, Grietje, Rachel, Duifje, Sophie and Leentje, who did not survive the Holocaust. Two other children of Simon and Esther: Hartog en Saartje have died at a very young age.
Esther van Collem passed away however on 26 August 1909 and Simon Overste remarried in Amsterdm to Nanette Zomerplaag on 16 March 1911. She deceased on 7 December 1927 and Simon Overste married on 2 January 1935 for the 3rd time to Rachel Halmans, a daughter of David Halmans and Sophia de Jongh.
