Salomon Canes was a son of Joseph Mozes Canes and Saartje Schellevis. He married in Amsterdam on 4 December 1895 to Rebecca Schelvis, daughter of Salomon Arie Schelvis and Esther Nebig. The couple had eight children, of whom two died at very young age.
As stepson, Salomon Schelvis, born in 1888, lived in this family too, son of the then still unmarried Rebecca.
