Hermann Haber in Amsterdam

Door: Ruijs

I wrote this text for a relative of Hermann Haber in Israel.

Hermann came to Amsterdam on June the 12th 1934, so his girlfriend Hilde came before him to Amsterdam. He went to live in the Watteaustraat 22 III (III means that he lived on the third floor) where he lived in the house of Izak Eigenfeld and his wife; they were Polish Jews. The Watteaustraat is just around the corner from the Courbetstraat where Hilde lived later in 1942.

On the 12th of Januari 1936 he moved to the Wouwermanstraat 8 huis (huis means ground-level) where he rented a room in the house of a hairdresser called Karl Friedrichkeit. Karl was born in Vienna, Austria, moved with his wife in the twenties to Holland and obtained a Dutch passport in 1938.

On 21st of Octobre 1937 Hermann moved up to the first level of the same house, where he rented a room from Hendrika Martthesius, an elderly single lady who rented rooms.

On the 5th of August 1942 Hermann married Hilde.

Hermann died in Auschwitz on 28th Septembre 1942.
