Great Niece of Paul and Wally Dannenberg, Great Granddaughter of Emma Dannenberg

My name is I. (Ingrid) Maxine Marcus, and I am the daughter of Hank Marcus and the granddaughter of Meta Marcus nee Dannenberg, who was the sister of Paul and Wally Dannenberg and the daughter of Emma Dannenberg. Meta Dannenberg-Marcus and her husband Max Marcus fled Berlin in 1936 to Amsterdam along with my father Hank (born Heinz) who was 8 years old at the time. My father went to school in Amsterdam and then was forced to attend the Jewish school, and then went into hiding with my grandparents Meta and Max. A heroic group of evangelical Christians together saved my father and his parents and they survived in hiding in the home of a preacher named Mr Fokkema. We are still in touch with some of the members of that group of evangelical Christian heroes whose courage is our inspiration. The name of one who is still living and with whom we are in touch is Agnes Hofmayer, whom my children call Tante Agnes. My father Hank and his parents Meta and Max emigrated to New York in around 1949-50 and my father met my mother Stella Splitter-Marcus in the US and married her in 1955, and I was born in NY in 1970. Now I have moved back to the Netherlands and I live in the Hague with my husband Rabbi Ira Goldberg and our three children. So please note I form a link between the family Dannenberg and the family Splitter who are also listed here. Most of my Omi's family (the Dannenbergs) were killed during the war as is clear from the entries here. I am glad to connect with anyone who might have more information and to share stories. I. Maxine Marcus
