Josef came to the Netherlands in December 1938. He lived in the facilities in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Driebergen and again in Amsterdam before moving into a house at the Herengracht in August 1940.
His parents were Bertha Alster, born in 1894 in Sanok, and Wolf, born in 1895 in Przeworsk. Both of them had been evicted to Zbaszyn on October 28th, 1938. His father was deported to Lublin in December 1940.
Their address in Köln had been: Blaubach 77.
There were plans to go to the US as a family.
