Excited that I found Simon & Rachel. They were neighbours of my husband's family - Hendrikus & Rachel Smit. They saw them picked up by the Nazis. They sheltered Simon's sister, Nina, and her husband Jo in their attic for a couple of weeks. Rachel is still alive here in Australia - now 101! We were curious as to what had happened to them. I was pretty distressed when I found them on your memorial and now know that they died in Auschwitz. Would like to know if Nina and her husband survived. When they left the Smit household they were planning on suiciding rather than being taken by the Nazis. My husband, Johannes Smit, treasured a wheelbarrow for many years which Jo made for him whilst he and his wife were hiding in the attic.
