Colorizing pictures is an interpretation of reality. Family members of victims do not always appreciate this specific interpretation.
Therefore, the editors of the Digital Jewish Monument (JoodsMonument.nl) take the following point of view:
- All portrait pictures (the picture on a personal page depicted above the places and dates of birth and death) will be the original black-and-white photographs.
- Whenever a user of Joods Monument adds a colorized version of an original black-and-white picture, we request to add to this version ‘colorized picture/ingekleurde foto’. The editors reserve the right to add ‘colorized picture/ingekleurde foto’ to contributions.
- In case family members object to colorized pictures, the editors will remove these or convert the pictures back to black-and-white.
