Hijman Ketellapper was a son of Marcus Ketellapper and Rachel Bonewit. He married 25 January 1903 in London to Roosje Jacobs, a daughter of Jacob Simon Jacobs and Rebecca Korper.
Hijman was born in a family with ten children. Two of his sisters have passed away before the war. His other siblings, Isaac, Abraham, Marianne, Leentje, Nathan, Vrouwtje and Alexander, have been killed during the Holocaust.
