Salomon Degen was a son of Israel Salomon Degen and Rebekka Lappeman. He married in Amsterdam on 20 December 1882 to the one year older Sara Schelvis, who passed away on 28 Augustus 1938. The couple had ten children: Hartog, Duifje, Meijer, Therese, Emanuel (who emigrated), Rebecca, Samuel, Levie ( he survived the Holocaust), Marianne and Isidor.
