Biography

About Eva Winter, her husband Louis Levi and her little daughter Rosa.

Eva Winter, born in 1917, was a daughter of Levie Winter and Roosje van Duren. Her mother passed away in 1919 and afterwards, her father remarried in Düsseldorf Else Vasen. However, he divorced her already in 1926 after a few years of marriage. Even before the official registration of the divorce, her father already left Düsseldorf for Holland with Eva self, her sister Elisabeth and her brother Adolph, where they lived in 1925 for some months at Linneausstraat 72 3rd floor in Amsterdam. Later in 1925 she self, Elisabeth and Adolph were accommodated in Rotterdam in the family of her aunt Bertha Nijveen-Winter, a sister of her father and the spouse of Samuel Nijveen. Later, Eva, Elisabeth and Adolph have lived with the Van Duren family in Arnhem and in Brussels.  Since August 1928 however, Eva lived in Rotterdam again.

Eva married Louis Levi on 4 January 1939 in Rotterdam, a son of Jacob Hartog Levi and Henrietta Frenkel. 8 November 1940, their daughter Rosa was born. The family lived at Aleidisstraat 71b in Rotterdam

Eva and her little daughter Rosa were deporte 5 September 1942 from Rotterdam to Westerbork and two days later, on 7 September put on transport to Auschwitz. Also her daughter Rosa suffered the same fate. The transport included 930 persons in total. On arrival 10 September 1942 all have been killed, among them Eva Levi Winter and her little daughter Rosa.

Her husband Louis Levi appears to be deported 16 July 1942 from Camp Amersfoort via Westerbork to Auschwitz. This transport included 895 persons, among them 309 Jews who arrived that day of depart from Camp Amersfoort, among them also Louis Levi. On arrival of the transport on 19 July 1942 in Auschwitz, no doubt Louis was selected for hard labor. However, it is not exactly known when Louis Levi lost his life – presumably in September. His official date of death has been established as 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.
