About Robert Spanjaard

Robert Spanjaard attended the HBS (secondary school) in Arnhem and then studied chemistry at the Polytechnic in Freiburg, where he became an assistant in organic chemistry. In 1900 Spanjaard was appointed deputy director at the Nederlandsche Verf- en Chemicaliënfabriek in Delft. A year later he became the company’s director.
Spanjaard was a knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau, and a member of the Supervisory Board of the companies Stoomspinnerijen en Weverijen v/h S.J. Spanjaard of Borne, Wollendekenfabriek 'Nederland' in Geldrop, and Instrumentenfabriek P.J. Knipp and Son in Delft. He was also a member of the management board of the Incassobank (debt-collection agency) in Delft and the Municipal Hospital’s board of governors. In addition, he was a member of Delft’s municipal executive for several years, with responsibility for public works. Spanjaard was well-travelled, and his hobbies included motor racing, music and hunting.
