About Martin Monnickendam

Martin Monnickendam was the son of Nathan Monnickendam and Roosje Rippe. From 1891 to 1893, he visited the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1895, he visited London, and then left for Paris, where he remained until 1897. Martin was married and had two children. In 1935, after a series of artistic successes, Martin Monnickendam was made a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He died of pneumonia in his home in Amsterdam on 4 January 1943.
