Alexander Ketellapper was a son of Marcus Ketellapper and Rachel Bonewit. He married 2 March 1921 in Amsterdam to Schoontje Frinkel, a daughter of Simon Frinkel and Jetje Goldsmit.
The couple had three children.
Alexander was born in a family with ten children. Two of his sisters have passed away before the war. His other siblings, Isaac, Abraham, Hijman, Marianne, Leentje, Nathan and Vrouwtje have been killed during the Holocaust
