Emanuel Mauw was a son of Meijer Mauw and Elsje Carels. He married 3 September 1930 in Amsterdam to a non-Jewish woman, from whom he was divorced on 3 July 1940.
Emanuel had a brother Levie who als has been killed during the Holocaust.
